At Fred Hutch, Dr. Jennifer Adair shows me her “gene therapy in a box” technology that will make it possible bring cell and gene therapy research towards an HIV cure to Uganda and India by 2024. Jen and I work with the Global Gene Therapy Initiative (GGTI), an alliance of key stakeholders including clinicians, scientists, engineers, advocates, and community members who seek to enable access and implementation of gene therapies as curative approaches to sickle cell disease and HIV in low- and middle-income countries. It is GGTI’s mission to help develop cures and impact communities around the world.
